Conversion to 2 blade feathering prop. Any advice, or specs.
such as Martec vs. MaxProp, 15" x 10" etc. would be wonderful. |
| Comments: |
It's fast & fun. Did a major refit over the 1995-96
winter including adding the factory-spec. aft-cabin hull port which opens up the aft cabin
amazingly. Got rid of the teak "eyebrow" on the cabin top which cleans up the
look and simplifies maintenance. Replaced the tacky "smoke grey" plexiglass
cabinet covers with white which brightens the main salon and gives it a
"Herreshoff" style. With full batten main and San Francisco winds, we do 8.5
knots regularly. A big gennaker makes downhill rides superb. Looking forward to the new
feathering prop. and rigid boom vang. I cruise mainly plus do a few ocean and distance
races such as Farallones, Jazz Cup, etc. |

| Can share info about | I made numerous mods for the trip to Cabo. I upgraded
the stove. I added an auxillary fuel tank. I installed a high output
generator, that later gave me problems. I added a 35lb CQR anchor
and bow roller. We modified our salon table for easier access. We
added a microwave and an inverter to run it. I added a Dodger and
a sailing sun/rain awning to cover the cockpit. Some worked good
and some didn't. Cherish is now a very comfortable cruiser. |
| Comments |
We keep Cherish at Channel Islands Marina so we can sail
the Channel Islands. There are four islands, Anacapa, Santa Cruz,
Santa Rosa, and San Miguel. It is a wonderful place to sail and
cruise. We have had numerous wonderful excursions to these islands.
The Santa Barbara channel is full of marine life. It is not uncommon
to sail along with thousands of Dolphins. One time at Johnson's
Lee anchorage at Santa Rosa we drug our anchor and were blown out
to sea. What an education. We recovered and returned to the anchorage
to eat breakfast. After breakfast we left and took a huge breaker
over the side. WHAT FUN!!! We later anchored at Cyler Harbor at
San Miguel. Supposedly this is were Juan Cabrillo died and is buried
on the island. We went ashore to visit the "Caliche Forest".
It is calcified remnants of the root systems of an ancient forest
estimated to be about 10,000 years old. The three upgrades I couldn't
live without are the inverter, the GPS, and the weather canvas.
We really do "Cherish" our C34 and always look forward
to spending time with her |

Two blade Martec was one the best additions to this
vessel for motoring and sailing. The UK Asymetrical kite was also
a wonderful addition for additional speed off the wind and light air
sailing to prevent motoring. The inverter is great at anchor allowing
me to microwave & not cook on the propane stove during hot weather
that adds heat to the cabin. you can never add too much dc power. |
