Advice about sailing in southern New England. . |
| Comments |
The name means "Let's go!" in French.
"The fur" refers to the amount of fur inside the boat from
the Maine Coon cats who sail with us. Eventually, you get used
to it. We sail on the Chesapeake Bay and are cruisers. Once
the course is programmed into the LORAN for the weekend
destination, the autopilot is turned on, and we enjoy a civilized
breakfast while reading the newspaper and watching the world go by.
The wing keel helps us get into gunkholes where the racers can't go,
so we can enjoy the quiet of the Eastern Shore. The tall mast
lets us catch the wispy winds of summer, and lots of battery capacity
ensures that the cold drinks stay cold. We had planned to take
this boat to France with us, when we retire in 2007, but there are
now enormous numbers of EU regulations that make it real pain
to register or sell it there. So, we will likely keep
her here for some time after we retire(07), and do the eastern US
and the Caribbean, and then sell her and buy something else (maybe
a 350) in Europe. She will be well equipped when we sell. (Now,
on second thought, we may keep her and take her over, but stay in
US registration - depends on the stock market...) |

myself & a friend with very little (3 days) sailing experience?
Near Seattle we managed to get an hourglass wrap in the genoa and
couldn't furl it in or drop it. We had a nice trip across the sound
towards Alki's lee with the genny flogging itself to death ($100.00

How do you get the galley sink to drain quickly?
|
| Comments |
The boat is set up for cruising with a 150 genoa and
cruising spinnaker. Have added refrigeration, cabin furnace, and microwave
for use on shore power only. Have a Link 20 battery data system. Carry
a Bruce anchor (22 lb.) as primary and Danforth as secondary anchor.
I find it works well except in heavy kelp or grass. I am installing
a heavy duty pump on my drain. Don't know if it will work yet,but
the pump is a diaphragm type and will suck a wash rag in test. |

| How Boat Was Named |
Escape Velocity - there's the traditional meaning of
course, but we've always used it as an expression of that point in
life where you've built up the retirement funds to the point where
you don't care about earthly things like working for a living and
you can sail anything you want. We're nowhere near that point. But
velocity is a vector with magnitude and direction. On rethinking things
and changing direction we were able to get everything we wanted in
a boat that is a bit older and do it while we are young enough to
really take advantage of it. Escape Velocity is a state of mind. |

When we purchased ChriSea in May, 2002,
we sailed her from Kewaunee, WI to Hammond, IN amidst rough seas,
rain and sleet. The following August, we returned on ChriSea to Wisconsin
for a week of sailing Door County with a group of trailer sailors
(mostly C22s). Unfortunately, both journeys were more motoring than
sailing due to time and distance factors, but we learned a lot and
our boat did great! |

Would like to know what the tork is on the
keel bolts. My husband found a crack between the keel stub and lead.
Is this a real problem or will just tightening the bolts do the trick? |

We are considering sailing from Seattle to Cabo and
then eventually through the Panama Canal. We are very interested in
connecting to any one who has done such a trip in the 34'. We
would like to review the upgrades like boards over the port holes
and stiffening the bulkhead-hull connection, etc, etc. We've pretty
much got the weather window figured out and suggestions of where to
stop along the Wash, Oreg, and Calif. coastlines. We just need
lots of input on getting the boat ready |
